Update 4/27/13

Filed under: Felted Cross Stitch,Updates — by Gypsy Vanna @ 5:12 am

I am finally getting some traction on finishing the blanket and have started teaching again at Village.
Here is a photo of the most current changes. I’ve been working on it a couple of hours each weekend at least and will be scheduling some craft shows again for summer/fall time frame. I’m getting really excited about this project again to have it finished. In the 2 years since I started it I’ve improved the technique more.

My sons cat is staying with me for a while and chose today to cuddle up and take a nap on my lap.

We slept for a couple of hours.

He is so pretty, I was trying to get a photo of him for the kids.050

Soft kitty, warm kitty…051

053As soon as I put it on the floor, he walked over and curled up on it.

054Its evening so I’ve lost the light and my cell doesn’t have a flash on it.  Generally you can see that the trunk and left tusk are almost complete now.  This is the last full page in the pattern, then I only have the partial pages to complete the work.

Update Easter 2013

Filed under: Felted Cross Stitch,Updates — by Gypsy Vanna @ 4:35 am

Worked on the blanket for several hours today.  Once I finish up this page of the pattern the rest will be downhill from there.  I’m teaching another class at Village in 2 weeks and will have the raw materials in front of a graphic artist before the end of the month for a quote on how to recreate what I did in 2009.  Work is still taking up a lot of hours and I can’t work on this there, it takes too much concentration.

Update 3/24/13

Filed under: Felted Cross Stitch,Updates — by Gypsy Vanna @ 9:33 pm

I am determined to finish this project as soon as possible. I spent the majority of the day stitching the lower left side (left tusk and surrounding areas). I plan on spending at least a few hours on Sat mornings working on it. This needs to be wrapped up.

Elephant Update 3/24/13

The shadow on the left is our house guest Skylar, who I moved off the center for this shot. They really love this and I have to say it’s stunning and is turning out even better than I anticipated.

Update 1-9-13

Filed under: Updates — by Gypsy Vanna @ 3:46 pm

It’s been a really long time since I posted.  I’ve been sidetracked with an actual job that is taking up 50+ hours a week of my time for the last 2 years and last summer I moved.  However, I am making progress on the blanket.  I am trying to work on it for at least 1/2 hour every morning – I must finish this project and get a schedule of craft fairs for this year.  I’ve finished the left ear and am working down the left side of the face.  Will post a photo soon (maybe this weekend).

Update – photo

Filed under: Felted Cross Stitch,Updates — by Gypsy Vanna @ 11:23 pm

I thought I was loopy for a few minutes last week.  The left ear is much more orange than the right ear – then looking at the pattern I confirmed it.  It is, I wasn’t just accidentally using the wrong color yarns.  Whew!

I finished this page (pattern page) today and will begin work on the next center section tomorrow or later tonight.  I’ rolling down the home stretch now and excited about this again.

I’ll work on the base pattern and try to get it posted for anyone whose interested next week.  ciao!

Update October 22

Filed under: Uncategorized — by Gypsy Vanna @ 5:35 pm

I’m on the second ear!!! Started it this morning. I’ve been working on this thing a couple of hours each night after work and will have an updated photo posted soon. I’m also in the process of writing the base pattern which I’ll post as promised soon. I’ve finally over the half way hump – it was miserable to try to work on this over the summer (a wool blanket in 90 degree heat – I don’t think so!!). It’s cooled off now. I’m through training and into my actual job. I work later hours and when I get home have a couple hours at night to watch a movie and craft. That will also grow to include publishing my patterns again, updating the manual for Amazon, writing new patterns including Rachel’s Wrap and Cas’s Scarf – variations of the same pattern made with leftover scrap yarn from the Sunflowers project.

I also lowered the price of the manual on Scribd to $5.00 for a pre-publication price.
I’ll be teaching another class in November, taught one the first of the month too and there is more interest growing steadily. I’m off the the yarn shop now since I’m out of 3852 and need another skein. I’m getting excited about this project again and hope to have it finished before the end of the year.
Keep watching!

October 15 – Update

Filed under: Uncategorized — by Gypsy Vanna @ 10:52 pm

The blanket is back in action and since I’m now over the midway hump should be rolling downhill. I want to get this thing finished!! I’m working on the pattern for the base and as promised will have it posted, no date deadline set yet. Sorry.

I’ve been teaching classes on FCS at Village Needlework and it is picking up in popularity. I’m also working on some other options for extending the craft. No more craft shows for this season but next year I expect to have the blanket completed and be showing it at fairs at least once or twice a month. Check back soon for an updated photo.

Update 7-16-11

Filed under: Craft Shows,Felted Cross Stitch,Updates — by Gypsy Vanna @ 1:47 am

Here are updated photos!  The blanket is on display at Village Needlework this week, I took it over this morning.  There are also photos of the Christmas In July felted cross stitch projects that I am finishing.  I am at the hump of the project and it should be all downhill from here.  It’s very difficult to work on a wool blanket in July when temps are reaching the 90’s and I have no A/C at home…so progress has been slower!  I have one display scheduled for August in the Amana’s and expect to have at least another page panel completed before then.  Cheers!

The one photo shows me at the Iowa City show in June.

The last photo with the horse is a troops project I spent time on this week.

Update 6-11-11

Filed under: Felted Cross Stitch,Updates — by Gypsy Vanna @ 8:19 pm

Hey, everybody.  I’ve been sick and handling some family issues.  I am currently working on the 4th chart page and almost 1/3 finished with it.  I intend to post an updated photo later this week (left the flash drive at home today).

The blanket may be on display at the Saturday Farmers Market once a month from July to September, I’m just waiting approval from the organizers.  It will also be at Amana in August (13?).

I am working on two other projects simultaneously.

(1) Christmas ornaments for the Take It and Make It activities at Village in July.

(2) A lace weight felted ornament that I’m really excited about.

I’ll post a photo and instructions for them soon.
